The Green Meridian Team is hosting a series of “pop-up” recycling events at the new Marketplace on the Green (1995 Central Park Drive, Okemos) in conjunction with the Meridian Township Farmers' Market this spring and summer.
On Saturday, June 19, people can drop off expanded polystyrene (Styrofoam) for recycling between 8:00 am and 2:00 pm. The foam recycling and “Green Resources Table” will be located in the center of the Marketplace.
Guidelines for foam recycling:
Make sure foam has the #6 symbol on it.
Rinse or wipe foodservice containers free from food.
If a bag is used, clear or translucent only.
Remove straws, lids, tape or any other non-foam material.
Do not include foam-packaging peanuts or pink/blue insulation board.
Information will also be provided about recycling, lawn and garden care, pet waste and motor oil management, pollution prevention, and Meridian’s Citizen Climate Commitment. Staff from Ingham Conservation District will be on hand to discuss micro-plastics in the environment. Eco-gift giveaways will also be offered. Next month will be a medicine collection (date to be determined).
Meridian’s 2021 Recycling Events are co-sponsored by Granger Waste Services, Ingham County Health Department, Delta Dental, the State of Michigan (Office of Energy, Great Lakes, and the Environment - EGLE), and the Regional Recycling Coordinating Committee.
