  • Introduction: Sponsored by MSU Department of Fisheries and Wildlife/Project FISH

The annual Hesse-Earl Youth Fishing Program is a free opportunity for youth, ages 5 to 16, to learn basic fishing skills such as casting, knot tying, rigging, regulations, and fishing ethics. Kids apply learned skills and knowledge at a local fishing site in the Lansing area with the assistance of trained volunteers.

This program is coming to Meridian Township on May 4, 2024, at Lake Lansing Park South (1621 Pike Street) in Haslett. Check-in will begin at 8:30 am and the program runs from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm. A responsible adult must remain on-site with each youth participant.

Pre-registration is required, and space is limited. To pre-register, please visit https://bit.ly/Hesse-EarlRegistration. For more information on pre-registering, call 517.676.7300.

Three optional follow-up outings will be planned at different venues in June to offer an opportunity for kids to practice what they learned and to fillet and eat some of the fish they catch.

Wear clothing appropriate for the weather. Hats and sunglasses are suggested. Fishing rods, reels, tackle, and bait will be provided. Bottled water and snacks will also be available. Bring a small cooler if you wish to keep fish.
