Public Meeting Notice - Lake Lansing Control Level Structure Repair

The Ingham County Services Committee of the Board of Commissioners will be hold a public meeting to discuss a report received from the Spicer Group in regards to six repair options for the Lake Lansing level control structure. The meeting will take place on Tuesday, February 6 at 6:00 pm at the Ingham County Human Services Building (5303 S. Cedar Street, Lansing).

The Lake Lansing water level is maintained by a concrete spillway structure with stop logs as well as a lift gate installed in line with a 24-inch drawdown pipe. This structure falls under the jurisdiction of Ingham County Drain Commissioner (ICDC), Patrick E. Lindemann.

The original structure was constructed in the 1920s and the spillway was reconstructed as part of an improvement project that was completed in the fall of 1976.

During regular inspections completed in 2022, ICDC staff noted that the lift gate installed in line with the 24-inch drawdown pipe had become inoperable. These findings were provided in the Lake Lansing Dam Inspection Report, which dates to December 29, 2022. This report recommended the replacement of the control structure, pipe, slide gate, and related support structures.

In June 2023, the Ingham County Board of Commissioners put out a request for proposals seeking professional engineering services to provide an analysis of the scope of repairs needed to improve the Lake Lansing level control structure. The Spicer Group was awarded this proposal and they have provided their report for six repair options.

This report will be reviewed and discussed at the meeting on February 6. The full report, as well as other materials, can be found below. For questions, please contact the ICDC at 517.676.8395.
