The Friends of Historic Meridian will host a speaker series at the Village Chapel (5151 Marsh Road) on Wednesday, March 6 at 10:00 am.
Guest speaker Michael E. Unsworth will discuss how the operations of the Union and Confederate marines were closely tied to those of their navies in terms of manning and missions. The marines were relatively few but participated in numerous actions afloat and ashore. They fought on blockade duty, ship-to-ship battles, and coastal landings. This presentation will cover the marines’ prewar history, their duties, uniforms, weapons, and major operations.
