We will focus our efforts on the property line of Legg Park and Red Cedar Glen Preserve to remove invasive shrubs that are crowding out native woodland flowers. This little opening in the woods is home to native species like butterfly weed, hairy bush clover, and smooth blue aster. We will use loppers, hand saws, and trimmers to remove invasive autumn olive, honeysuckle, and non-native pine trees. All tools will be provided, and no experience is necessary. Come on out and make a difference in your local natural areas!
Stewardship Saturdays occur every other Saturday from 9:30 am to 12:00 pm at a different location. Help the Meridian Conservation Corps restore habitat across our parks and preserves through activities like invasive plant removal and sowing native seeds. Stewardship workdays are a great way to get outdoors and improve our community!
Participants are encouraged to pre-register but walk-ins are welcome. To register, or for more information, please contact Land Stewardship Coordinator Emma Campbell at ecampbell@meridian.mi.us or call at 517.853.4614. All workdays are outdoors and may be cancelled due to inclement weather.
