LOCATION UPDATE
- Meet us at 5120 Van Atta Road in Okemos. The preserve parking lot is located on the East side of Van Atta Road. You will see a brown pole barn next to the parking lot. Once we gather our tools, we will cross the road and head to an area near the wetland edge where we will remove buckthorn and honeysuckle shrubs with loppers and saws.
- We will provide all tools, but please feel free to bring your own loppers or tools if you would like. A nice thick pair of winter work gloves is a must, we only provide thin, rubber lined work gloves. Please dress appropriately for the chilly weather, layers are always great for workdays.
- If you would like to check out invasive species information & learn more about them, visit www.misin.msu.edu. They have training modules, pictures, and tons of resources!
Participants are encouraged to pre-register but walk-ins are welcome. To register, or for more information, please contact Land Stewardship Coordinator Emma Campbell at ecampbell@meridian.mi.us or call at 517.853.4614. All workdays are outdoors and may be cancelled due to inclement weather.
If you would like to join the Meridian Conservation Corps to receive email updates on future stewardship events and get free MCC swag, sign up at the Meridian Conservation Corps webpage.
Stewardship Saturdays occur every other Saturday from 9:30 am to 12:00 pm at a different location. Help the Meridian Conservation Corps restore habitat across our parks and preserves through activities like invasive plant removal and sowing native seeds. Stewardship workdays are a great way to get outdoors and improve our community!
