Fall is a great time to plant Native Plants! The Harris Nature Center (HNC – 3998 Van Atta Road, Okemos) will be hosting a Fall Native Plants Sale on Saturday, October 1st from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm. The Native Plant Sale includes Michigan native shrubs, sedges, grasses, wildflowers, ferns and complete garden kits. All proceeds benefit HNC. The native plants are grown locally at Designs by Nature in Laingsburg, Go Grow Plant Natives in Charlotte and Michigan Woodland Wildflowers & Ferns in Haslett.
For more information about the Native Plants Sale contact HNC at hnc@meridian.mi.us or call 517.349.3866.
Residents are encouraged to plant native plants in their yards to help protect wetlands in Meridian Township. Putting native plants back into the buffer or vegetation strip helps to maintain ponds, streams and wetlands in their natural state by filtering out pollutants, providing habitats for wildlife and securing stream banks against erosion.
