Wetland Walk

Wetland Conservation & Plant Identification

DATE CHANGE:  Wetland Walks generally occur the first Wednesday of every month. The August date has been changed and will be held on Wednesday, August 17th.

As part of the Wetland Education & Restoration Program, tours will be offered the first Wednesday of every month featuring wetlands in the Township.  These tours are meant to expand the community's knowledge of ecosystem services wetlands provide, ordinances & regulations for wetland protection, as well as local restoration efforts.

Davis Foster Preserve, which is not widely known for what we think of as traditional wetlands, has an incredible diversity of wet meadows, and cattail wetlands that are filled with a variety of native plant species. We will hike and identify plants currently blooming, what has already set seed, and what will still be coming. We will focus on the importance of remnant wetlands, and how they can benefit our human and natural community when we conserve them. Go to our Wetland Protection webpage to learn more about these amazing ecosystems.

RSVP for all events and workdays is appreciated but not required. To register, or for more information, please contact Land Stewardship Coordinator Emma Campbell at ecampbell@meridian.mi.us or call at 517.853.4614. All workdays and events are outdoors and may be cancelled due to inclement weather. If you are interested in signing up for the MCC, please go to our webpage at www.meridian.mi.us/mcc
