Meridian Conservation Corps
Turn Intention Into Action - Connect, Learn & Conserve
The Meridian Conservation Corps is a program devoted to increasing community involvement in our parks and preserves. It is a vehicle to grow awareness of volunteer opportunities involving the care and conservation of Meridian Township’s local green spaces. These places will grow on their own, but in order to thrive we need to take care of each aspect of their health. Natural areas are important for the physical and mental well-being of human life. We need nature and nature needs us. This program aims to utilize the community’s knowledge and passion and gather it into one concentrated place: the conservation corps!
The MCC has an event once a week all year round. We remove invasive species, pick up litter, collect and sow native seeds, as well as transplant native species back into parks and preserves. We also do educational programs once to twice a month to learn about local flora, fauna, and wetland conservation.
Stewardship Saturdays occur every other Saturday throughout the entire year from 9:30 am to 12pm. Weekday Warriors offers a volunteer opportunity during the weekday, every other Thursday from 1 pm to 3 pm. Check out our monthly calendar (link below) for more details and sign up to be on the email list for weekly updates. Come hang out with us to make a difference in our little corner of the world!

With 1600 acres to care for, we need our community to come together to help us achieve our current and future stewardship and land management goals. So many of the citizens in this township are already heavily involved in their local park or land preserve - we want to empower these citizens and arm them with the right information and resources to create healthy green spaces. The goal of this program is to give the community the opportunity to choose which path of conservation they would like to follow and in what park or preserve. Anything from beautification of the parks through trash pick up, to preservation of important habitats like vernal pools. The MCC is meant to cultivate a sense of place, meaning and ownership for citizens in the community and the land that their tax dollars support. Now let’s roll up our sleeves and get to work!
