Conservation & Green Initiatives

Meridian Township places a high value on conservation and green initiatives, prioritizing environmental protection and sustainability through actions such as reducing waste and emissions, conserving resources, and restoring ecosystems.

In 2017, Meridian Township became one of Michigan’s first municipalities to adopt a Climate Sustainability Plan. This plan outlines objectives and actionable steps to reduce carbon emissions and safeguard the environment. Key goals include:
  • Achieving significant energy and water cost savings in Township facilities and the vehicle fleet
  • Obtaining 100% of electricity used for Township operations from renewable energy sources by 2035
  • Reducing the volume of materials sent to landfills by 10% by 2035
